July Platform news
Rules for publishing manuscripts
Many manuscripts are being prepared in BioValue for upcoming publication.
So remember to circulate the manuscript to representatives for all the project partners in your project 30 days before submission! According to our collaboration agreement, §10.4, all content in scientific presentations, posters, manuscripts etc. to be published need to be cleared by the partners in your project. They have 30 days to make claims of foreground knowledge or potential patent rights. Your supervisor or your project leader should be able to coordinate the clearance. Off course, if your manuscript is cleared by all partners before the 30 day deadline, you can submit earlier.
Also, be sure to put in the proper credit to the platform, in terms similar to: “This study was funded by the BioValue SPIR, Strategic Platform for Innovation and Research on value added products from biomass, which is co-funded by The Innovation Fund Denmark, case no: 0603 – 00522B”.
A “pixi-book” of the BioValue Collaboration Agreement can be found here and the full agreement can be requested by sending an email to the platform manager, firstname.lastname@example.org
Money returned to the innovation pool
Our SME-project with AccumOil ApS entitled “Optimizing the yield of triacylglycerol in a solid state fermentation using oleaginous fungi by enzymatic pre-treatment of the biomass” is concluded. Due to an array of (unforeseen) obstacles the desired fungal growth was essentially unsuccessful – and the exploratory idea upon which the project rested, turned out not to be achievable in practice. Thus, further work planned at Aarhus University became obsolete, and approx. 170.000 DKK of the budget was not spent. This will be re-invested in the innovation pool, which now holds 2,8 million DKK for everyone with near-term commercial ideas to apply for. See more here and apply before August 1. A more detailed feature on the challenges and outcome of the AccumOil-project will be available in the newsletter next month.

New project leader, post doc and PhD-positions
Leadership of project 5 “Catalytic conversion of carbohydrates” will return to Esben Taarning from Haldor Topsøe, after associate professor Peter Fristrup, DTU, starts new job July 1 at Dong Energy. Peter will be working on the new pilot facilities currently being moved from Skærbæk to Ballerup.
We congratulate Christian Bukh, post doc in project 1 and 2, on his new job in ThermoFisher Scientific starting mid-August. A new post doc position will be announced soon at KU-PLEN to carry on the protein characterization and amino acid profiling work. The position will be announced on the BioValue website.
A new PhD position has opened up and can be seen here.
Please do note that the BioValue secretariat will be closed for summer holidays:
