BioValue Board

The board of BioValue has constituted their chairmanship for the next year: Johan Mogensen (VP, Biorefining and Feed R&D, Novozymes) will continue to be the chairman and Erik Bisgaard Madsen (Vice-dean, Copenhagen University) will continue as the vice-chairman 2016-2017.

2 new projects granted

Six applications for innovation projects were brought before the board. Two of the applications were approved:

GreenField ApS: A collaboration between GreenField ApS, Dacofi Holding ApS, and several BioValue partners in project 2 and 4 to test the soluble protein fraction from green biomass for human consumption in protein soft drinks. The goal is a 100% soluble vegetable protein, preferably organic. Besides potentially delivering a high value product the project also contributes to the generic knowledge of Project 2 with a new filter pressing technique.

KMC: the granted project is a small, but highly relevant business case study based on data within BioValues activities and the experience of a Dutch SME on green biorefinery “Grassa B.V.” The goal is to produce documentation for the decentralized scenario of green biomass fractionation to make a tailored business case for a company of KMC’s location, facilities and competences. Partners from project 1, 2, and SeSE are involved.

The remaining funds in the innovation-pool is currently 2,6 million DKK. The board has decided to open for yet another round of applications. To apply go to the website for guidelines here, and send a 1 page project proposal by August 1, 2016 to project administrator Thorkild Q. Frandsen. Deadline for the full project application is Friday August 19, 2016 before 12.00 to Thorkild Q. Frandsen. The applications will be processed by the board on the next meeting September 12, 2016.

New people – or people in new places

New project leader for Proejct 1: Lone Abildgaard (SEGES) has taken on the responsibilities of project leadership after Michael Støckler transitioned to his new job for Agro Business Park. Lone has been involved in Project 1 since the beginning, developing the on-line cost model and feasibility studies, and is keen to push the project progress further. Project 1 will have their next meeting on August 8, 2016.

Two observers have been included in the BioValue board: Niels Langvad, our investment manager and platform liaison from Innovation Fund Denmark and Jens Bligaard, Head of department Plant & Environment, SEGES. SEGES was assigned this place in the board due to changes in ownership of the TI-division AgroTech. The board welcomes the future collaboration with both parties.
