The MEC project is no more

Director of BioRefining Alliance Anne Grete Holmsgaard, could regretfully convey that the MEC project is no more.

MEC, or Maabjerg Energy Concept would have been the first of its kind integrated biorefinery in Denmark. The project would have created jobs in the thousands as well as put Denmark in the forefront of biorefining.

It has been a sad turn of events that lead to the project being cancelled due to the lack of funding.

Despite the project being funded with kr. 300 million from NER300 (a euro fund) it was not possible to gain funding and additional guaranties in Denmark.

Anne Grete Holmsgaard says that it has been a ongoing problem for some technologies to get across the valley of death. That it is close to impossible to find funding for these types of projects, and that the MEC plant is the newest victim.
